Milwaukee universities form energy research center   
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), Marquette University and MSOE, in partnership with several regional companies and foundations, have formed the Southeastern Wisconsin Energy Technology Research Center (SWETRC).      
SWETRC combines regional resources to establish a national center that will develop high-potential research in the energy field, attracting large-scale funding and leading state-of-the-art technology. Dr. Carol Diggelman, MSOE professor, will lead a project partnering MSOE with Marquette University, UWM and Johnson Controls to create a business case for the sustainable renewal of existing buildings. Faculty awards presented
Congratulations to Dr. Yvonne Yaz and David Gerow who were recognized as outstanding full- and part-time faculty members. Yaz, professor in the Mathematics Department, was presented with the Falk Engineering Educator Award which recognizes dedication and performance in a full-time faculty member with less than seven years of experience. Gerow, adjunct associate professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department, received the Johnson Controls Award presented to outstanding part-time faculty. Read more...


MSOE featured in online videos
In collaboration with Discovery World, Dr. Jovan Jevtic, assistant professor, was interviewed recently for a Tesla Lives! webisode. Jevtic is a Tesla expert and has deep knowledge and understanding of the principles of electricity, and Tesla’s ideas and experiments. In other video news Phillip Laper, marketing and public relations director of the Blatz Café, was recently interviewed by WisconsinEye. Learn more about how the café was started, the challenges of operating the café and Laper’s visions for the future.


WMSE Food Slam
Don’t miss WMSE’s 8th Annual Food Slam on Oct. 2. Held in the Eisner Museum of Advertising and Design, the event features a silent auction and food tastings from local area eateries. New this year, local writer Erin Harris visits participating restaurants, samples the food and blogs about it. Tickets are limited, so get yours soon!


MSEV Symposium
The next MSEV Symposium will be held on Wed. Oct. 14 from 6 – 9 p.m in the Todd Wehr Auditorium. The title of the symposium is Food Safety and Security, Beneficial Reuse of Food Waste, and Urban Agriculture. The discussion will cover topics such as how what we eat impacts the environment, what the vulnerabilities in our food system are and more. Speakers are Michael Keleman of InSinkErator, Will Allen, CEO of Growing Power Inc., and two MSOE students will present on their Food Waste projects. Nov. 7

Focus on Grohmann Museum

The Bookworm by Carl Spitzweg (1808-1885) is on display through Oct. 4. On loan from the Milwaukee Public Library, this is the most famous of all his canvases.
